Martial Science

What is Martial Science?
Martial science draws on many different scientific disciplines related to interactive body mechanics applied in the moral, ethical, and legal use of force in self defense situations. The goal is to develop functional physical self defense skills against the most common street attacks. As a peacekeeper in a self defense situation the shorthand goal is, “Don’t get hit”. Your mindset is to be prepared to knock the attacker down so he doesn’t get up. In other words, be prepared to finish the confrontation until you can get skilled enough to have more peacemaker paxtial options.

What is Self Defense?
The goal is to develop functional physical self defense skills against the most common street attacks which are elliptical punches and tackles. On a broader scale self defense can be examined using this six stage model:
Stage 1. Awareness – informed by conscious and subconscious knowledge.
Stage 2. Avoidance – informed by awareness, moving away from the threat.
Stage 3. Deterrence – attacker does not select you to attack.
Stage 4. De-escalation – verbal strategies to defuse the situation so no attack occurs.
Stage 5. Physical self defense – use of force to end the confrontation.
Stage 6. Aftermath – what happens after the incident.
There is great value in studying the stages before physical self defense.

Training History

Ed Parker’s Kenpo Karate
Dominic studied Ed Parker’s Kenpo Karate between 1989 until 2013 as part of Bob Rose’s British Kenpo Karate Union. He became an instructor and earned his Black Belt in 1996 and his Fourth Degree Black Belt in 2007. In 1999 he moved to Japan where he started Sendai Kenpo self defense club in 2001.

The Martial Science of Self Defense
In 2004 he began his martial science education with Kevin Mills as part of Dr. Ron Chapél’s Martial Science University (MSU). In 2010 he became a personal student of Dr. Chapél and began traveling to Los Angeles every six months to continue his martial science education. In 2014 he earned his First Degree Back Belt in SubLevel Four Kenpo Concepts. In 2025 he was promoted to Fifth Degree Black Belt in American Tactical Chuán Fa under Dr. Chapél and formally elevated to the position of MSU Ambassador and MSU Director for Curriculum Development.

Paxtial Arts
In 2020 he became an Ambassador for Paxtial Arts, the Peacemaker Self Defense System designed by Ed & Baer Parker. Marital artists can be viewed as peacekeepers, on the other side of the coin are the peacemakers seeking peace through non-combative self-defense methods.
