Dominic pivoted from working as a Chartered Geologist in England to start a career in education in Japan in 1999. He worked in private language schools, joined the JET Program and the Hello World Program. He became an English Teacher working in a private K12 school in Sendai.

In 2009 he became a tenured founding lecturer at Sendai Seiyo Gakuin College in the Department of Career Design. In 2019 he became a founding professor in their Department of Contemporary English. He served on the Tohoku International School Council from 2018 and was the co-chair when the TIS Council ended in 2025.

He has a Master’s in Education and teaches and researches comprehensible input in language acquisition, leadership in presentations and public speaking, and martial science in self defense. He is an officer for Japan Association for Language Teaching Sendai Chapter and a peer reviewer for the Martial Arts Studies Journal. He is a TEDx speaker, a presenter at educational and entrepreneurial conferences. His research and publications can be viewed here.
